In the era of touch phones, the screen occupies a prominent place. And one of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is important, since its size is 4 inches! What comfort is it expected … Especially for web browsing. Unfortunately, on this point, we were disappointed. As the regulars will be iPhone and other HTC Hero or Desire.
Indeed, for (un) zoom in on Web pages or photos you can not be achieved by pinching or spreading the fingers. For this feature, Sony Ericsson has not provided anything other than the two small logos zoom + and – traditional Android 1.6 version runs under the smartphone tested.
An overlay interresting
For cons, the work has been done on the GUI. Thus Timescape is an interesting example of this overlay. The idea: bring together the various events “incoming” from your smartphone as a cascade of windows. A kind of vertical Coverflow, the last event being placed at the top.
You have such a series of messages from Twitter successor to SMS, mails or notification of incoming calls. More specifically, it is not that different messages from your network that are represented chronologically: there are thumbnails of photos taken by the NPC of the X10. In short, a true black box. The function is not difficult to use even if a bit confusing at first.
Only criticism: the user subscribes to a number of “son” Twitter (or FaceBook) risk of drowning her emails in the batch. Unless they are considered less important than the messages FaceBook (for fans of social networks). Anyway, there is the possibility, of course, to consult separately the desired source of news.
Other interesting dressing, Mediascape, for presenting on a single screen on the phone’s multimedia content (video, photo and music). We loved the beautiful and effective ergonomics music player (whose sound quality is noted elsewhere).
We also appreciated the quality of the NPC (includes 8 megapixels and a flash), although we did not find the settings of ISO.
In short, here is a text-oriented recreation. Whose fault is a turn yet, despite including a fast processor, under an old version of Android. And its a shame that manufacturing quality is not as polished and solid than its predecessor X1.
