Turn on the Samsung Wave. If you have never seen an AMOLED screen, you’ll be impressed! 3,3”is very bright and very contrasting. And the colors really bright. A bit like watching a miniature screen HD. And we are not exaggerating.

Some figures that characterize this screen: a quantity of 16 million colors and a 480×800 pixel definition. But wallpapers pre-installed and the display of pictures and videos are far more “talking”. Another advantage: the manufacture of Samsung Wave. Its finish is neat. The unit is thin (only 10.1 mm, off button relief center), lightweight (115 g on the scale). And the shell is (except the ends), while brushed metal.
Nice work. Would not that why the wave is above the rest. Under the hood of the new flagship of Samsung, the engine takes his station with a frequency of 1 GHz, it attains the same level as the HTC Desire or even iPad … In the overall execution of tasks (eg video games), we’ve found its velocity.
Like other smartphones, one finds the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync on the Wave, for any business users want to synchronize, among other content with their emails and calendar stored in the network society.
Now, take pictures with the Samsung Wave. Certainly, the photos taken (5 megapixel with if necessary using the flash) are satisfactory, but you’ll certainly pleased with the videos recorded in 480×720 pixels: their fluidity is remarkable to read.
Samsung Wave: a new OS
The Samsung Wave is the first to run under the OS launched by Samsung Bada several months ago. Its interface with the grid of icons from the home screen, clearly reminiscent of the “inflenceur” what Apple’s iPhone, but it also has a certain originality.
Because it toggles the “widget mode” to “application mode”. And this, by pressing the center button at the bottom or the one next door to the right. Among the widgets are one example of the Inbox emails, one from Google (to search, view Google Maps or Gmail to open). The applications, developed for Bada are they to download from the Samsung Store Apps.
Each mode (widgets or applications) proposes to customize up to ten different windows! It begs the question of such great importance attached by Samsung widgets. But why not, if you see the widgets as gateways to services. Anyway, overall, the handling seemed to us easy, although initially we were a bit confused, accustomed perhaps to the logical interfaces of smart phones iPhone and Android.
We make a critical, however: the permanent presence of the three icons at the bottom (“Keyboard”, “Contacts” and “Messages”), whatever the method chosen, and the size of the screen stretched rather make a little space reduced. So, it is sometimes difficult to put two widgets on a single window. On a larger screen surface interface be even better.
We appreciated being able to (de) zoom photos and Web pages (or removing) pulling two fingers on the screen capacitive, but we must recognize that the result is not as smooth as the iPhone. Similarly, the integration of Google Maps is far less convincing than the HTC Hero or the iPhone. Among the extras there Wave FM radio (which unfortunately the reception was interrupted periodically during the test).
But more important, finally, the first smartphone Bada really is, we believe, following our tests, a pleasant surprise: it benefits from both technical performance and price (with subscription) very aggressive with the operators.
For those who will not or can not afford the HTC devices like Desire or the Apple iPhone, the Samsung Wave represents an alternative to consider. But we can not stop us asking whether his success will not be linked to the quality and number of applications available for this system. It will perhaps be able to convince Samsung developers working for Bada fissa.
For, when tested with a recount in all categories under 400 applications (which we do not know if some are redundant), the comparison is weak in front of tens of thousands of competition (iPhone, Android Symbian, BlackBerry). The Wave is perhaps a beginning for Samsung will show if there is actually a wave Bada.
Plus : The quality of the display (AMOLED, capacitive, definition), the ability to customize windows, power processor, the video recording quality, quality manufacturing, general ease of use
Less : Quality of less use of Googe Maps and web browsing (iPhone compared to competitors, HTC Desire), the frequent loss of the FM radio reception, the current relatively low number of compatible applications Bada
