The operator Neuf Telecom expands its catalog of mobile phone offering the Gigabyte GSmart t600, the first smartphone with a digital TV tuner. Distributed under the name Twin Pack TNT or bare without subscription, this small smartphone 110.5 x 55.5 x 18.5 mm 140 g stands offering broad compatibility with various digital TV standards and offers a high quality image thanks its VGA screen. Hybrid device between a smartphone and mobile TV, GSmart t600 is it a good compromise for professionals or those addicted to TV.

DTT and TMP in the pocket

Highly anticipated compulsive zappers currently browsing the TNT then appeared for the first time on a mobile. To this end, the Gigabyte GSmart t600 includes a telescopic antenna which, when unfolded to its maximum, you will remain in the hand! Original, but a little disconcerting, this antenna also serves as t600 stylus … The advantage of a wide compatibility with different digital standards: DVB-T (TNT), DVB-H (TMP TNT or Mobile), T-DMB ( Korean DTT) and DAB (digital radio). The TMP (personal mobile TV) is not yet available in our countries, we could not test that DTT.

First good surprise, the reception of 18 free channels is quality outdoors. The distribution is smooth, sound and image are secure so they quickly zap from one channel to another. As expected, the reception becomes more capricious indoors. The small antenna / stylus does not work miracles, and unless the window, the moving light at arms length and on tiptoe, the reception is almost nil.

The second pleasant surprise for the quality of the image. With a 2.6 inch screen displaying an unprecedented resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, great quality and high resolution screen that will also honor your videos.

If the DVB-H (TMP) appears better suited for this type of terminal, the reception of DTT signals has convinced us, GSmart t600 is a great portable TV.

A smartphone is not enough communicating

The Gigabyte GSmart t600 has a fairly standard configuration. An Intel processor running at 520 MHz supported by only 64 MB RAM, Windows Mobile 6 Pro, a 2.6-inch touchscreen, a slot for MicroSD HC cards and traditional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Apart from the unprecedented resolution and very comfortable on screen, GSmart is indistinguishable from its competitors. If you can rent skills for digital TV, it is not the same for the connection DATA.

The GSmart t600 is no HSDPA or 3G or even EDGE … You’ll have to settle for older GPRS! A curious choice for a camera for professionals. Pity, because apart from the odd, ergonomics and overall performance of the GSmart t600 are suitable.

The dial and buttons shortened improve navigation on Windows Mobile, lit by blue LEDs, the buttons blend nicely with the semi-opaque white dress GSmart t600. The 2 megapixel autofocus digital camera is not a great warrior, but he fits in the standard of other smartphones. However, with a talk time of 4 hours and 150 hours of standby time is disappointing.

The peculiarity of this text is to integrate a digital tuner and be able to receive signals from the TMP. On the basis of mobile TV, GSmart t600 makes a faultless and enjoys a high resolution screen. Penalized by a flanged connection to GPRS DATA and autonomy a bit tight, the Gigabyte GSmart t600 is not a suitable tool for professionals.
