Ok, before I rant on the battery, Palm fanboys I want to warn against the change you prepare for one (note: I am a huge fanboy Palm). If you are not currently using a Treo or Centro phone, skip the next paragraph.

No complaint, just an opinion because Palm has always had the best contact management / calendar. Nobody else comes close. If you like the way Palm OS has always immediately synchronized with your PC (Outlook, Palm Desktop, etc.) – you need an application of the third party to purchase to do with pre-and Pixi. Palm has declined support. It can synchronize with an Exchange server, such as a Blackberry (my company does not support it) or Gmail (I’ll never share my contacts with Google, Yahoo, or other public place). Most of these applications are delivered with a trial period. I suggest that you have installed on your PC before you sync contacts or e-mail facility. It worked perfectly and so I have to do with Outlook for many years. When configuring your first step to skip pre e-mail address so you can sync your contacts with APP third first. It is much less confusing.

Oh, and not synchronized with more than one third party app, because every contact you to duplicate. The Pre is able to see and duplicates to show them as a single point (a little), but I tried it with more than one, and I had to do a hard reset and then synchronize with only one third party application to de-dupe of contacts. PocketMirror not wireless sync, but it is very slow with my 3000 contacts. It is a litte faster using Bluetooth. CompanionLink is much faster, but requires a USB cable.

Ok, for those who do not care to sync contacts / calendar, or obtain one from the 3rd party applications, here is my summary of the Palm Pre: fantastic!

It is very close to the iPhone in usability, innovation, etc. Each has unique advantages. However, the Palm wins the things I care – multitasking as an important … I can listen to music and surf the web. Is not Ipone, iPad, or any other iDevice. That’s huge.

The only complaint I have is the battery life, which is not worse than an iPhone. Palm has made significant improvements to 1.4, and must continue to work. battery consumption down after having a couple of weeks, because then you do not play with the 7×24. 3G access is what consumes most of the battery, just like the iPhone. I bought a battery of Amazon.com Siedio extended to provide improvements and reduce the brightness of the screen can also help. But if you do a lot of Web surfing, tweeting, etc. .. it is about 10% by leaks hour – but no worse than the Droid Motorola through.
