Released after the phenomenal model Desire considered at the time of its launch as one of the best smartphones in the world, it looks like the HTC Wildfire. Carved for users that have a lower budget, this another smartphone under Android (2.1) shows proportional technical performance, but can, however, to properly pull its chestnuts from the fire.

At first glance, the HTC Wildfire recalled the Desire, phone of the same mark, acclaimed everywhere. Its format is less elongated, the smaller diagonal size (3.2 “against” 3.7). The finish is good, manufacturing mixed metal and plastic.

Forward, the four buttons on the screen of the Desire (Home, Menu, back, and research) have left their place in tactile areas, but the joystick is. Fortunately, because the latter is a model of precision.

The two smartphones work with the Android 2.1 operating system. And enjoy the beautiful wrapper developed by the manufacturer, HTC Sense, who had already proven with the Hero: an interface offering seven screens customizable applications from the Android Market but also widgets specific to the mark, including the famous weather).

The display shows, without a doubt, one of the major differences between Desire and HTC Wildfire: the definition of the screen. It unfortunately meets the eye! Indeed, the definition of the Wilfire is 240 x 320. And even on the smallest screen (3.2 inches) lower quality is remarkable from the 480 x 800 pixels of the Desire.

The display of the photos is not flattering. (5 Megapixel) photos taken by the device are not convincing. However, this is not a disappointment: HTC shines not in General by the quality of the photos of these smartphones.

Not surprisingly, given the affordable price of the Wildfire, the frequency of its processor is almost two times smaller than that of the Desire and smartphones top range models (528 MHz against 1 GHz). This does not however preclude the Wildfire to be reactive: the fluidity of its touchscreen interface is satisfactory.

There are two small functions of the HTC Wildfire that we appreciated: the FM radio and torch. It is launched by a nice application to vary the light intensity of the flash of the AFN. In short, less potent than the Desire, the Wilfire has still something.
